Cat-Car Diaries: A Feline’s Account of Street Cats and Their Struggles

Hi, I'm Fluffy, a cat who lives in a car with my friend Tom. You may think that's weird, but it's actually quite cozy and safe. We have a bed, a litter box, some toys, and food and water. Tom is very nice to me and he takes me for rides sometimes. He also lets me out when I want to explore the neighborhood.

But not all cats are as lucky as me. There are many street cats who have no home, no food, no water, no shelter, and no love. They face many dangers and difficulties every day. They have to fight for survival and avoid humans who are mean to them.

I have seen some of these things with my own eyes and I want to share them with you. Maybe you can learn something from my cat-car diaries and help make the world a better place for street cats.

I am at the comfort of my home

My home is a blue car that Tom parks in different places every night. He says it's because he doesn't have a house or an apartment. He says he lost his job and his money and he couldn't afford to pay rent anymore. He says he loves me and he doesn't want to give me up.

I don't mind living in a car. It's better than living on the streets. I have everything I need here and I feel safe and warm. Tom always makes sure I have enough food and water and he cleans my litter box regularly. He also plays with me and cuddles me and tells me stories.

He says I'm his best friend and he's mine too. We have a bond that no one can break. We are happy together.

I am at the comfort of my friend's car

Sometimes Tom takes me for rides in his car. He says it's good for the engine and the battery. He also says it's fun to see new places and meet new people.

I like going for rides too. I get to see different things outside the window and smell different smells. I also get to meet other cats who live in cars or nearby.

Some of them are friendly and some of them are not. Some of them are curious about me and some of them are scared of me. Some of them want to play with me and some of them want to fight with me.

I try to be nice to everyone but sometimes I have to defend myself or run away. Tom always protects me if there's trouble.

Watching some people mistreating stray cats

One of the things that makes me sad is seeing how some people treat stray cats. They are so cruel and heartless.

Some people throw rocks or bottles at them or kick them or hit them with sticks or cars. Some people trap them or poison them or shoot them or set them on fire. Some people dump them in garbage bins or rivers or sewers or forests.

Why do they do that? Don't they know that cats are living beings who feel pain and fear and love? Don't they know that cats have souls and personalities and emotions? Don't they know that cats deserve respect and compassion?

I don't understand humans sometimes.

Watching some people not teaching their kids not to torture stray cats

Another thing that makes me angry is seeing how some people don't teach their kids not to torture stray cats. They let them do whatever they want without any consequences.

Some kids chase stray cats or pull their tails or ears or whiskers or fur. Some kids throw things at them or spray them with water or paint or glue. Some kids tie them up or cut them or burn them or drown them.

Why do they do that? Don't they know that cats are sensitive creatures who need care and affection? Don't they know that cats are smart and playful and loyal? Don't they know that cats can teach them valuable lessons about life and love?

I don't like kids sometimes.

Watching some people helping stray cats

One of the things that makes me happy is seeing how some people help stray cats. They are so kind and generous.

Some people provide them with shelter, food, water, and health care. They make a place for them to stay with a box or a porch with old clothes or blankets. They feed them dry food or leftovers, and give them fresh or lukewarm water. They also try to find their owners or new homes, or donate money or supplies to an association that cares for them. If possible, they get the cats neutered to prevent overpopulation and diseases.

Why do they do that? They do that because they love cats and they want to make a difference. They do that because they understand that cats are not a problem but a solution. They do that because they appreciate the beauty and grace of cats and their contribution to the world.

I admire humans sometimes.

How you can help stray cats

If you are reading this, you may be wondering how you can help stray cats too. Well, there are many ways you can do that, depending on your situation and resources.

You can start by following these simple steps:

  • Be aware of the stray cats in your area and their needs. Observe their behavior and health and try to identify if they are friendly or feral, if they have a colony or a caretaker, if they are pregnant or nursing, if they are injured or sick.
  • Be compassionate and respectful. Don't harm or harass the stray cats or their shelters. Don't feed them food that is bad for them or leave trash behind. Don't disturb them when they are sleeping or resting.
  • Be responsible and proactive. If you decide to feed the stray cats, do it regularly and at the same time and place. If you decide to provide them with shelter, make sure it is safe and comfortable. If you decide to adopt or foster a stray cat, make sure you can commit to it and provide it with proper care. If you decide to get involved in a trap-neuter-return (TNR) program, make sure you follow the guidelines and work with a reputable organization.
